A. Interoception: Understanding and Using Interoception to Empower Self Regulation: Elizabeth Duffy
Interoception is one of our 8 senses (sight, smell, taste, hearing, touch, proprioception, vestibular, and interoception) that interprets and responds to our body signals. It is the sense that tells us, for example, that we are hungry or have to use the bathroom; it also helps us identify and respond to body cues about our emotions and energy levels. This presentation will explain what interoception is and how it relates to regulation. Strategies to improve your own interoception/regulation and support other’s interoception/regulation will be discussed with demonstration provided in session.Resources will also be discussed and provided that are neurodiversity-affirming for regulation and interoception.
Elizabeth Duffy is an Autistic Occupational Therapist and mother of an autistic child. Elizabeth Duffy is also president of Minnesota Neurodivergent Education Advocacy and Therapy Services (MnNEAT), a newly formed non profit that through amplifying neurodivergent voices, supports self advocacy, provides mentorship and education to professionals and the community, and builds networks of trusted services.
